Sky Trains

A little while ago, the talented artists over at Conceptart.org organized another one of their “Environment of the Week” challenges, this one with as theme, “Sky Train Express”. The participants were told to consider that in the “not-too-distant future”, a “fuel crisis has culminated in the crash of the airline industry. A new form of intercontinental travel has been invented,” which uses no fossil fuel and has transformed the face of the Earth, “as the tracks criss-cross the continent.”

Most of the artworks submitted were rather more futuristic than steampunk, yet all are definitely worth a peek. Be sure to check the Thread in question, after having watched our selection of favorites.

The image above was created by an artist who goes by the name of “Fjooner”. Unfortunately, he or she does not maintain a website or blog, so we kindly direct you to their Sketchbook at Conceptart.org, which contains of numerous pages filled with artwork.

This one, depicting a sky train over what appears to be a swamp (hopefully, that’s not where it’ll drop of its passengers), was made by an artist called “artiphats”. No website there either, so we would like to direct you to their Profile at Conceptart.org through which you should be able to find more of his or her artwork.

Lastly comes this more futuristic depiction by one “Trashy”, real name, Sean Thurlow. Mr Thurlow maintains a blog by the name of The Junkyard where you can find several work-in-progress views of his submission to the “Sky Train Express” contest.
