I’m sure you’ve seen the utterly gobsmacking rayguns by Jeff de Boer, but he’s also known for making armour for cats and mice (fair’s fair, after all), rocket lamps, armour-ties and certain large scale works like the flying steam train above! There’s a dastardly villian’s vehicle if ever there was one. While the main point of this post is to point out that Steampunk steam-train, I was facinated by the fact that the rayguns are part of Mr de Boer’s much much larger project – the aim being to write a book on the history of an entire society/world through the evolution of their firearms – but it is not our world, but a parrallel one. Apparently he’s writing the book when he can, but at some point there’s talk of having the grand collection of firearms tour various galleries – each weapon of which will be true to this alternative world, and created from scratch. I have no doubt some of these firearms would be Steampunk in their appearance, with Mr de Boer so in tune with these alternative ‘histories’. I very much look forward to even more from the master of rayguns.
