Planet Steam – A German Board Game

Posted by on April 16th,2010

Hey there Gogglers,

One of my secret geeky pleasures is playing boardgames.  But I’m not talking about Monopoly or Clue.  I’m talking about German Boardgames.  Normally these games have been translated rather well into English, and it’s a challenging and fun way to pass some time with like minded friends.  Now of course, when I saw a Steampunk boardgame from accross the room, I was drawn to it,  however upon closer inspection I realized this game would be more challenging than most, because it was a direct import and the whole box was in German.

Click the “more” link below for more pictures and description:

Upon closer inspection of the box, I’m about 80% sure English instructions are included, however with the whole box in German, and the high price tag (most games of this nature run about $50.00-$60.00 USD, this one is $130.00) I wasn’t willing to buy it to find out.

I tried to get some good pictures of the description (as seen above) in hopes some of our german readers could comment on this post and tell us what the heck this game is about!  From what I can tell players pay for improvements to their piece, perhaps they are building a steam engine?  I’m not sure, but I have to say my curiosity is peeked about this game.  Has anyone played it?  Do you live in the LA area and need another player? :D
